Mud Musings

“Mud Muse” is a portrait of mud. The medium I used in the painting of mud is oil (not mud). This oil painting depicts the wonderful mud of Estancia, NM; but, as we know, muddy situations exist everywhere!

The story of the painting goes like this:

The pickup truck slid off the road, as many a vehicle has on these fantastically muddy county roads. The cowboy slipped and fell on his way to meet the pickup truck driver–the mud is really that slick! The Mud Muse is seen entering a small adobe abode, attracted by the wonderful aroma of a fresh cup of high mountain pinon coffee. As in any home built on the hilly prairies around Estancia, muddy footprints are being tracked inside. Featured as well are the little burrowing owl and the prairie dog, and the ever present goat and cow found on many ranches in this area. The mailbox is in a typical pose.  The rancher and his dog are walking back to the house, hoping to catch the muse unaware. The little black cat in the window looks on in a-muse-ment! Everything always ends with a beautiful rainbow, which may be a cliche, but it is a fact of life in the high desert areas of New Mexico after a welcome rain.

This painting would look perfect on a wall at any popular off roading spot’s place of business!
